I absolutely love Spinning, I regularly attend classes at my gym. Spnning is a fun, lively exercise and also a great way to burn calories at the end of a busy day. The BBC explains that spinning is a class where you sit on a special bike in the gym and follow the instructions of a trainer. The ‘spinners’ cycle for between 30 minutes and 1 hour on a special programme to build up fitness. In my gym music is played, normal lights are turned off and replaced with strobe lights which creates a unique and exciting atmosphere.
If weight loss is your main aim then Spinning is a great way to speed up achieving your goals. In order to lose weight you need to create a deficit between the amount of calories that you consume and the amount that you burn. The Guardian reports that you can burn between 350- 500 calories in a 30 minute Spin class, which is fantastic. There are few exercises which can burn so many calories in such a short space of time.
Spinning is also great because it falls under the category of both aerobic and anaerobic exercise. It is an excellent calorie burner that gets you sweating and your heart rate pumping just like any other great form of cardio exercise, yet it also challenges your muscles and stimulates the growth of lean muscle mass.
If your goal is simply to tone up I would still recommend Spinning. Many people who attend classes, myself included, have noticed a difference in the shape of their legs. As fat deposits are replaced with muscle they become more shapely. Spinning also strengthens your core muscles and improves your posture. Throughout the class you are encouraged to hold your abdominal muscles in which encourages them to become engaged and in turn they get stronger.
Spinning can be enjoyed at all ages. You have the control to put the resistance up or down on the bike; you should always listen to your body. I hope that with all of the excellent benefits that I have listed you will want to give Spinning a try!
